Pat 1950 Marksman Engraved

The Queen's Medal for Champion Shots of the Air Forces was established in 1953 to recognize the best shots in the Air Forces of the Commonwealth. Prior to its institution, members of the Air Force were ineligible for the King's Medal for Champion Shots in the Military Forces, as that award was exclusive to the Army. The introduction of the Air Force-specific medal allowed for the recognition of excellence in marksmanship within the Air Force.
The 1955 championship was won by Flight Lieutenant T.W. Gregory CD, marking a significant achievement in Canadian military shooting history. Notably, Gregory had previously won the King's Medal for Champion Shots in the Military Forces in 1938, making him the only individual to have won this prestigious award in both branches of the Canadian military. His dual victories highlight his exceptional skill and dedication to marksmanship
Gregory's victory in 1955 highlighted the importance of marksmanship in the RCAF and set a precedent for future competitions. The competition continued annually until 1967, when the Canadian Armed Forces unified the Army, Navy, and Air Force, leading to the discontinuation of the Air Force-specific medal.
