Zippo Lites Bowling
This unusual 1953 Zippo commemorates the Zippo Lites, a women's bowling team associated with Zippo, and their participation in a State Tournament held in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The lighter features colourful female bowling imagery on both sides. The front reads “1953 State Tournament – Wilkes-Barre, PA.”, while the reverse incorporates the team name “ZIPPO LITES” amongst bowling pins together with the personalized name “JEAN.” The individual personalization strongly suggests that the lighter was specially produced for a team member or participant rather than as a general souvenir.

Particularly interesting is its Canadian manufacture. Both the case and insert originate from Zippo Manufacturing Company of Canada Ltd., Niagara Falls, Ontario, and date to approximately 1950–1953, placing the lighter amongst the early years of Canadian Zippo production.
Period evidence confirms that the Zippo Lites were a genuine bowling team active during this era. The Canadian origin of this example raises the intriguing possibility that Jean may have been associated with Zippo's Niagara Falls operation, or that Canadian personnel participated alongside their Bradford counterparts in Zippo-sponsored bowling activities.

No surviving tournament roster has yet been located to identify Jean by surname or establish the exact relationship between the Canadian and Bradford operations. Nevertheless, the combination of early Canadian manufacture, Zippo Lites team affiliation, individual personalization and a specifically dated 1953 tournament makes this a fascinating and still partly unresolved piece of early Zippo corporate and sporting history.
